Basically what you are saying is the CS should come up with some new and better install profiles? ones that correspond to these three market sectors?
I think i would get a little more granular, and maybe your thinking is to branch like this after the initial selections:
Non Profit:
Brochure Site (i know that this is not the goal of CSL, but many organizations might just want to start with basic CMS, no fancy pants functionality)
Activism/Advocacy
Community Organization with Members
Political Action
Candidate Site
PAC Site (without "membership")
Member Driven PAC
Grass Roots / Barn Raiser
Fact is, some of those options might lead the user to the same install profile, but they don't need to know that. If the point is to get them to self identify and then serve them up the profile that "we" think best satisfies their requirements.
I would rather have users self identify with their goals than their organization type though. I think in a box on the side we can list what kinds of orgs the install profile is aimed at thought.

Yeah, more granularity needed
