FWIW, you might check out The Big Fix. A dozen or so fixie riders rode from Davis to Boston as a fundraiser for Histiocytosis. "Coast to coast without coasting," as the organizer Michael 'Mojo' Cosgrove put it. Someone tagged along and made a film. http://www.fixhistio.org/

it's also nice when your chain breaks in traffic. it's a whole lot nicer than trying to stop bmx style with foot to tire.
